Mano Sotelo

Mano Sotelo earned a B.F.A. from Otis Art Institute Parsons School of Design and an M.F.A. in Painting from Academy of Art University. Mano’s work has been exhibited in several art museums across the country; and his work has been highlighted in competitions hosted by The Artist’s Magazine and International Artist Magazine. Mano’s work involves the use of painting as a vehicle for observation, contemplation, meditation and prayer. One segment of his artistic practice involves looking at belief and value systems (i.e., philosophy, psychology, religion, and mythology); and inherited truths. While another portion represents painting as contemplative prayer: a communication with and contemplation of God (i.e., the Creator, a greater consciousness, any name of preference). The objective here is not to render the experience, but simply to suggest it through the use of metaphor. Signs and symbols that point to archetypes or dichotomies found in myth and belief systems around the world.
