STATEMENT

I have been fascinated by colours as long as I can remember and my memories dwells on colours and colour combinations. Beautiful colours, vibrant or soothing, surprising and fun, all of them wherever they appear continue to fascinate and inspire me to create colourful abstract artworks. I work intuitively and work from memories, I prefer to create a series of paintings from the same inception.

I live on the West Coast of Norway close to fjords and mountains, on the edge of the North Sea. I often find inspiration in the nature surrounding me, these old landscapes that’s enduring the dramatic weather changes, the deep fjords and majestic mountains kindles my imagination and curiosity with its intrusiveness and persistence, its volatile colour moods and elusiveness and gives me a broader perspective in my life and remind me of the passing of time, the ungraspable past, undetermined present and unpredictable future. I use nature and memories of places in my work, but it's the colours that resonates most forcefully within me giving me a powerful language to express myself.

As a tactile person dry pastels are the obvious choice and my much preferred medium to work with. Using a “hands-on” approach is just right for me. I love the feeling of the pigments in my hands, moving and mixing them, creating shapes, edges or shadows, all with my hands and fingers. I’m a painter by heart, my way of thinking and applying colour matches the dry pastels well, which benefits my abstract colour work, that I like to call pastel paintings. The vibrancy and purity of the pastels appeals to me and the way they carry the luminosity of the different colours are fantastic and as close to my imagination and perception of colour as I have found in any medium, this combined with the silky soft surface they create makes it an interesting and satisfying medium to work with, leaving me with a beautiful artwork that I’m proud of and enjoy.

My abstract artwork is vibrant and energetic, I explore the inherent luminosity and depth of the colours, the dynamics of the dialogues, movements and flow, how the character of the colours are affected and change and how they appear in gestures, shapes, and lines. Colours speak the language of my soul and keep fascinate and inspire me, rendering unending possibilities of exploration. Creating works of art inspires me more than I would have thought possible, it brightens my life as I hope my artworks will brighten yours.

BIO

I was born in Stavanger on the West coast of Norway where I still live and work. I’m married and have two daughters. Colour have fascinated and kindled my imagination my whole life, and has been the main ingredient in my artwork and the main interest throughout my years. But different opportunities came and I made a career as an Art-Director, a few years later I moved to England where I studied Art and Art Therapy, I did my art training at Tobias School of Art in East Sussex, and got my diploma in 1997. Back in Norway I worked as an Art Therapist mainly with children and young adults. Two years ago I decided it was time to follow my heart and passion and develop my own artwork. It has been a hectic period and I have been more productive and inspired than ever before. Connecting with galleries, collectors and curators has given me new opportunities, I have received an award of excellence for my artwork and it has been exhibited and sold both nationally and internationally.
