Artist Statement

I like to consider myself as a painter of light rather than limit myself to a specific category, portrait, landscape, still life ... Light defines shapes, space and gives a meaning to what we see and to my artwork. I usually choose subjects that catch my eye, usually because of the effects of light, and that provoke a strong need to take them on canvas or paper. Once on my easel, I try to enhance what has captivated me most and to bring some magic to the work; capture my particular vision, incorporating touches of abstraction to my work mainly figurative.

In all whole work, both in oils and watercolors, I use essentially a reduced palette of colors based mainly on a cold and a warm tone of each primary color.

While with watercolors I focus more on the initial preliminary drawing, the oil medium allows me to follow my sensations at the moment and improvise, using mainly the techniques of the "alla prima” painting. This allows my work for different styles depending on the medium used.

My influences are many and diverse, since I am curious about new and old artists, and trends, but among my fovourite ones are some classical artists as Joaquín Sorolla, John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer; and more contemporary as Lita Cabellut, Christian Hook, Conor Harrington and Charles Reid.
